I loved this book. The depictions of Darcy and Elizabeth were both believable and likable. The Fitzwilliam boys were positively delightful. Dialogue flowed. The adventure was believable— exciting without being over the top. Same for the mystery portion. It had enough clues that it was solvable for the reader and the characters were neither too dense to notice nor suspiciously clairvoyant. The mystery also knew its place—it was secondary to the characters and their love story. The motives made sense in the context of the time, as did the characters’ actions and reactions. Finally, the book is well-written and well-edited. I don’t remember a single case of poor word choice or grammatical error (huzzah!).If you are looking for an unusual, well-written variation that will keep your attention and make you smile, I recommend this one. How could anyone pass up a book with such a perfect man on the cover? Not me! And I'm so glad that I succumbed to the lure of that gorgeous representation of what an ideal Mr Darcy would look like. I have never yet been disappointed in this author. She has created another wonderful work, and I only wish it were much longer because I was enjoying it so much.During the Netherfield ball, things start to get sinister when Bingley lures Darcy to his library under false pretenses, and tries to arrange a compromise with his sister, Caroline. Thanks to Elizabeth, who witnesses the whole thing, disaster is averted, but it's just the start of a series of events designed to harm Elizabeth and Darcy. Darcy, with the help of his Fitzwilliam cousins, tries to investigate, and determine who is targeting him and Elizabeth, and why.The actions taken against Elizabeth and Darcy are quite serious and deadly, so the story could have taken a depressing turn had not the author given us such glorious characters to love. Darcy is swoon worthy, at his absolute best with some much appreciated wit and humor in his dealings with Elizabeth. Colonel Fitzwilliam and his brother, Henry, are just as they should be - witty, intelligent, and fiercely dedicated to family, with a ton of charm thrown in. Elizabeth is, for once, ready to realize her misconceptions about Darcy, and at her witty, strong, and courageous best.There are some delicious twists involving some familiar characters, such as Bingley and Wickham, and Jane is a lovely surprise. This story has it all: great writing, suspense, mystery, excitement, and plenty of romance. Cousin Henry deserves his own spin-off, so interesting is his character, and so many hints given to depths not yet explored.I look forward to more from this author. The book is well written and well edited. I recommend it highly.
